Your identity and account data

Choose what is public

New accounts begin with a neutral identity. Reading and private writing are available immediately. Choose your name and handle before contributing publicly. Your email address is not used as your new public name or handle, and a provider’s profile is not automatically published.

Request an export

Open Settings → Your data and request an export. Refresh to see progress, retry a failed request and verify your email before downloading. The ZIP contains a readable index, structured account data, authored manuscripts and versions, Codex and notes, Ghost conversations, reading notes and collections, public contributions, account-scoped financial history and available owned uploads. Check its manifest for unavailable or omitted material.

What is not exported

Exports do not include authentication secrets, internal moderation notes, another person’s private data or full manuscripts you merely purchased. An archive expires seven days after it is ready. Request another archive if you miss the download window.

Request deletion

Verify your email, type DELETE in Your data and submit the request. An operator reviews it. You may cancel while it is requested or approved, until execution starts. Export anything you want to keep first. Once execution starts, access ends and private drafts, notes, conversations, reading activity and public comments and reviews are removed. Threads may keep an empty placeholder.

What remains

Published editions, necessary source attribution, existing reader entitlements, retelling dependencies and required financial and audit records remain under a minimal account record. Retained authorship reads Deleted author. Published books are delisted. A delisted paid original may still accompany an existing retelling purchase unless moderation blocks acquisition. Deletion does not automatically refund purchases, reverse earnings or withdraw permanent retelling permission.

Completion and recovery

Deletion can take more than one processing step. Required storage, provider and telemetry follow-up must finish before the request is complete. Contact Support about a delayed request. Erasure records are used during backup restoration to prevent deleted private data from returning.

Clear reading progress

This separate action removes resume positions and Reading, Paused and Finished state. Purchases, your saved books, collections, notes, bookmarks and earned achievements remain. Older queued checkpoints cannot restore the progress you cleared; reload a stale reader before continuing.
