Creating and publishing a retelling
Choose an eligible original
A retelling starts from an original that permits retellings. You need the required access to its published edition. Choose the source edition and starting point, then develop your version in Studio. A retelling cannot be used to create another generation of retellings.
What carries over
The source manuscript and attribution establish the connection to the original. The original author’s private Codex, notes and Ghost conversations are not copied. A lineage keeps its free or paid mode. The publishing screen explains the requirements for your divergence statement, translations and original writing.
Permanent permission
Enabling retellings is permanent. Delisting a book or deleting its author’s account does not withdraw permissions already granted or erase existing retellings. Published source editions and attribution remain so those works can continue. Read these consequences before enabling retellings.
Reading and moderation
A paid retelling may require access to its original as part of the purchase. A delisted paid original can accompany an existing retelling purchase, unless moderation blocks acquisition. Moderators assess each book separately; a restriction on one book does not automatically restrict every related retelling.
