Writing, import, export and recovery

Generate a cover

Open Add cover or Change cover in your book details, then choose Generate cover. Check the title and author name, or choose Artwork only. Your available credits appear before generation; credits used appear when it finishes. Use this cover opens the preview, and Save cover updates your book. Unused generated covers are kept for seven days. Saved covers stay available.

Start privately

Create a book in Studio and add chapters. Reading and private writing do not require a public identity. Your manuscript, Codex and private notes stay private until you choose to publish manuscript text.

Save and recover

Watch the editor’s save status before leaving. Recovery points keep earlier draft versions when available. Open chapter recovery to inspect a version before restoring it. Published text stays in its edition even after you change the current draft.

Bring in a manuscript

Use the book import flow, inspect the proposed chapter split and confirm the chapters you want. Supported formats and size limits are shown in the import screen. Keep the original file until you have checked the imported text.

Take your work with you

Use book export for a manuscript file. For a broader archive including versions, Codex, notes and Ghost conversations, request an account export in Settings → Your data. Download it within seven days and keep your copy somewhere private.

Organise a story

Use the Codex for characters, world details, facts and continuity. Notes and plans can change as you write. Review Ghost’s suggestions before accepting changes to your manuscript or story workspace.
